I purchased the UN65D8000 in mid-July. Upon having the television mounted and installed (after testing that it worked), I watched it for about an hour. At some point in that time, the entire left half of the screen turned purple. I spoke with Samsung directly, as the item had a warranty. I called them at least 4 times, twice having it escalated, to no avail. Every time I received the same answer, "We have recorded your issue, and will have a partnering repair company contact you". Days go by, no call; over and over. Then finally I decide to contact their partnering repair company myself. But only after having them repair the television, return it, and having it not work again, did I get the explanation from the repair company of the procedure. Here it is: Basically the repair company has to call Samsung with the diagnosis, and Samsung determines what parts they are to use to repair it, and then they send them. Sounds fine, only that Samsung is trying to complete this warranty repair in the cheapest possible way. So, as much time as it takes going back and forth with repairs is what they are going to do. I bought a $5000 television, only to have 2 months go by without it working and no one seems to care.

Thank you all for your entries. Reading them was very helpful to me, and I would like to help others by adding what I experienced this past month. Keep in mind I gave this product a full 5-stars because that is exactly what a defect-free L75-A91 deserves. I also posted this review on the AVS Forum, a great resource for home theater. Also, I make no comments about sound. You don't buy a piece of gear like this planning to rely on the internal speakers.

I received my Laservue from Walt's on Jan 3. I prepared three years for this decision, starting with considering the 82" DLP, then almost the first 65" Laservue, then waiting for the 75" 2nd generation. I went to see a local Mitsubishi-run demo over a year ago that included the 65" Laservue. A Mits rep handed me a confidential sheet that described the next generation Laservues, and it was an easy decision to wait. Also, I'll give up the extra inches the 82" DLPs provide for the Laservue's elimination of the color wheel and bulb changes.

If I want to get a total immersion experience I just plop my butt five feet from the screen at 1080p, and I'm experiencing IMAX! For routine programming 75" looks great from the sofa 10 ft away. One month after my Laservue arrived, I'm happy. But it took a month to get to this point.

Now for my purchasing saga...

I had plenty of opportunities to view and buy locally. I really wanted the comfort of getting this thing from a reputable dealer just a few miles from my home. Unfortunately that comfort came at an $800 premium (shipping and taxes factored in) over what I found on-line, so I went with Walt's in Phoenix. They treated me just great and I have no complaints whatsoever. They shipped when they promised, and I got regular tracking updates. I was instructed to look for any signs of damage to the shipping carton, and to reject the delivery if anything suspicious could be seen.

The truck arrived right on schedule, and the packaging looked absolutely pristine. They even put Mitsubishi's entire package onto a wooden skid, well strapped in the vertical position. I signed and brought my baby home. It was a very cold day, so I just let the whole thing sit in my home for about six hours before uncrating the product. When I opened it up, everything looked perfect.

BUT

The moment I turned my Laservue on I knew something was wrong. The red screen logo popped up, but it had a strange shape, angled in from the sides. Sure enough, so did the picture. It filled the screen for about four inches from the top. Then both sides of the picture angled inward symmetrically. The picture height ended about for inches from the bottom of the screen. I also had the infamous "tab shadow" in the upper right corner. Everything worked. What there was of the picture looked great after some tweaking. It was obvious there was severe key-stoning, and I felt it was unlikely the set left the factory that way.

BUT I HAVE A SPECIAL LASERVUE HOTLINE...JUST FOR ME!! I registered and called that night, Jan 3, 2011. I listened to the menu choices. Why are they asking me, on a dedicated Laservue hotline, if I want to buy a replacement bulb??? There is no bulb! Hmmm...

I got through the menus and waited. My God that music makes me want to strangle the first person I talk to!! But that's not how I treat people, and when someone finally picked up I was a perfect gentleman. It didn't take me long to realize that my "hotline" was a low-level call center outside our beloved US of A (Philippines I later found out.) They try hard, but the point is they can do nothing but pass the info along to the real people that can help us, located in California (customer service) and in Atlanta (tech center). I was promised a call-back the next day.

Three days later I got a call, but I missed it and it went to voice-mail. It came from a customer service rep in California, Marcus, but there was no way to return his call, except going to the "hotline" and talking to our Filipino friends. It took forever to get a live body there, listening to that fingernail-on-the-chalkboard music. Finally I got another very nice call-center person, who had no idea who or where Marcus was, but she promised me a callback before the end of the day. Two days later I was talking to Marcus, a wonderful, knowledgeable fellow. He told me he was personally handling my case. I emailed him photos of my issues and he said he would release a work order to my local authorized service center for in-home repair.

GREAT NEWS! That service center is superb, friendly, and close. I called them. The owner took care of me personally, and he said he would come as soon as the work order arrived from Mitsubishi. It took three days, and several of HIS phone calls, with the same music-on-hold. to get the work order. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!...

The UN55b8500 is Samsung's current flagship model and is the successor to the LN55A950.
To clarify I own this tv and am not just basing this review on time spent in a store browsing. This tv has been hard to come by and the only place I could find that had it in stock was my local Best Buy with a Magnolia section.

Design: Samsung is noted for their sleek design and this tv is no exception. Samsung says it has a charcoal touch of color but I really didn't notice any color in the bezel. It is black and goes to clear at the outer edge. It sits on a metal stand with a clear neck holding the tv. At the bottom middle of the tv below where it says Samsung is a blue light which can be turned off. I noticed the light flickers ever so slightly when a command is sent from the remote you are using. The tv is VERY slim. Only 1.6" at it's fattest point. This is amazing considering this tv is a fully backlit LED unit with local dimming. Truly amazing and a design that will have your friends jealous.

Picture Quality: This is the best looking LCD tv made today. I have viewed many other LCD tv's including the Sony XBR8 and the Samsung A950 from last year and this one is the best looking I have seen. From a picture quality perspective the XBR8 is closest but not quite up to par with the 8500. Realistically if you had either of these sets in your house they would look spectacular. The blacks on the 8500 are so dark it approaches the level of blacks in the best Plasma tv's. In a dark room I could not tell where the tv screen ended and the bezel began because the screen was so dark. The colors are superb and can be tweaked any number of ways to your liking. I prefer the "Natural" mode for everyday use and the "Movie" mode for watching blu-ray movies. The 240hz refresh is nice but the best thing is that you can independantly control Blue and Judder settings. Cranking up the 240hz tends to produce what some call the "soap opera" effect but this can easily be eliminated by tweaking. There is also a Game mode which I use when gaming on my PS3.

One interesting thing I found out was that the Movie mode using the Warm 2 setting is pretty much spot on from a calibration perspective right out of the box. I say that because I have a Spears & Munsil calibration blu-ray disc and when I ran the tv through the calibration process using Movie mode on Warm 2 I literally only had to tweak one setting by one or two points. I could see many people just flipping back and forth between Natural and Movie modes, depending on what they are watching, and not bothering to calibrate the tv as it looks great pretty much out of the box.

I also wanted to mention that standard def looks good on this tv. It doesn't look nearly as good as HD but it is totally acceptable in my opinion.

I pre-ordered the 55LW9800 based on its specs (THX certs, full LED, passive 3D). Before the set was delivered, some early reviews slammed the set for its poor local dimming capability so I was concerned. After watching the set for several weeks now, I have to say that it has the best picture quality that I've ever seen. Out of the box, it performed well - bright sharp picture with rich color and deep blacks. I also fussed around with several picture settings using the expert mode to improve contrast in darker scenes.

Some reviews complained that the local dimming function caused bright parts of the picture to be surrounded by light "clouds" in adjacent darker areas. In my brightly lit family room, there is no evidence of such clouds. In complete darkness, I can see a very faint aura around stuff like scrolling movie credits and it's somewhat more visible from extreme off-angle positions. However, I saw the phenomenon because I was specifically looking for it - not because it detracted from normal viewing, even in total darkness. I guess reviewers have to find something to gripe about, but for me, local dimming (at least at its low setting) works fine.

I'm also pleased by the exceptional 3D pictures this set can produce. There's no hint of the double-vision "ghosting" that afflicts some 3D sets. I've read that passive 3D sets like mine cannot display as good a picture as active 3D sets, and some reviewers complain about jagged edges on diagonal objects and circles. From my normal viewing position about 10 feet from the screen, none of this is apparent. I've watched active 3D sets and their glasses are uncomfortably heavy, plus the picture seems alot darker than what my LG shows. To me passive 3D gives a better viewing experience and getting extra 3D glasses is very cheap. I now have 14 pair so my entire extended family can watch 3D at one time.

I had the 73 inch wd73835 for one and a half years and was very satisfied with the picture quality and the 3D was very good as well. I upgraded to the wd92840 and am happy with the quality of most HiDef programming but the standard definition programs are not nearly as nice. It seems that the screen size magnifies any video noise and picture imperfections. The 3D quality is not as good as the 73 inch either and the screen is so much more reflective then the 73 inch as well. I love the TV size and I just close the blinds if needed. I am happy with the purchase and would do it again but I would recommend people go see the TV at a local store before buying so you understand the TVs limitations.

I have had the Elite for about three weeks. I couldn't be happier with it, aside from the price. The picture is extraordinary, the blacks rich, the colors vibrant, and I haven't had it calibrated yet. One thing I wasn't expecting, but was thrilled to find out, is the quality of sound that comes from this TV. On my Sony (KDL55XBR8) the sound was pretty good, but there were times when I felt the need to turn on the audio receiver. As a result I bought a $300 soundbar. But now, with the Elite, I don't need it. The quality of sound coming from the Elite TV's own speakers is superior to the sound coming from my soundbar. The dilema is, now what do I do with the soundbar?

If I had to pick one thing that stands out on the Elite, I would say the black levels. They are absolutely astounding, to the point that I was distracted by the depth when I first starting using the TV. I have read that the black levels are better than for the previously made Kuro. I have never seen the Kuro's picture, but I would have a hard time imagining blacks any deeper than these.

Though I always sit directly in front of my TV I was actually surpised when I had to get something on the other side of the room and the picture did not significantly degrade as I got farther off angle. This is a huge improvement over my Sony KDL55XBR8.

I talked to a Sony rep at Best Buy a few months ago when I was getting "the itch" to buy a new TV. I was frustrated to find out that (according to the Sony rep) the HX929 was not a step up in quality from the XBR8. I said, "It's been almost three years. You mean to tell me that in three years Sony has not come out with a better TV?" He advised me to stick to my XBR8. I was astounded. Then I heard about the Elite at Best Buy a couple weeks before they came out. I talked to two of the sales people and they were both excited about the new Elite's coming out. When they came in a couple weeks later I knew I had to have one. So if you have a KDL55XBR8 and you want a TV that is better, with better picture, sound, black levels, and motion enhancement (and you have the money), this is your TV. You won't regret anything about the purchase...other than the price.

I have owned a lot of tv's in my time and I would have to rate the Mitsubishi L75 at the top of the heap. The picture is the brightest of any TV I have owned. I replaced a Mitsubishi 82737 82" with this smaller set, and even though it is smaller it is so much brighter and clearer that it was well worth the trade off and additional expense. I highly recommend this set.

I ordered the Sony XBR60LX900 60" 3D HDTV as soon as I became aware it would be available, as I was creating a new home theater, and I wanted this television to be the centerpiece of my new system. My television is mounted on a BDI Avion Series II 8937 Triple Wide Enclosed Cabinet, Black Stained Oak, and connected to the BDI Arena 9970 Flat Panel TV Mount. The rest of the system includes: NAD T785 (7 x 120W) A/V Surround Sound Receiver, Sony ES BDP-S5000 Blu-ray disc player, Sony S770 3D Blu-ray disc player, Magnepan 1.7 front speakers, Magnepan CCR center channel, Magnepan MG CC1 surrounds, and two Hsu Research VTF-3 MK3 subwoofers.

The most remarkable quality I've found with the television is its theater-like picture. Verizon FiOS premium channels such as HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax are brilliantly rendered. DVD and Blu-ray discs are also beautifully shown. The colors are vibrant and life-like, the images are very crisp, and the depth of field is remarkable. Sports broadcasting is very clear, and the television imaging is very responsive to fast-paced action, whether in movies or sports broadcasts.

Honestly, there is simply nothing I can think of that is lacking in this television. It has absolutely the most beautiful picture image I have ever seen. Aesthetically, it is both simple and beautiful. It seems that Sony hit the ball out of the park on this one. I highly recommend this television.

We purchased the Sharp Aquos LC65D64U in early February, and have found the picture and everything else about this HDTV nothing short of amazing. We shopped extensively and looked at many other large screen flat panels, and nothing compares to this for the money. (Actually, I don't know how anyone could want a more beautiful picture at any price.)

We used our existing high-end surround sound speaker system (originally purchased several years ago for use with a Sony 60-inch rear projection TV, which was great in its day), but upgraded our old surround sound receiver to a new Yamaha RXV863 receiver to complement the newer digital technology. We have the Sharp mounted on the wall, and use a Playstation 3 for Blu-ray movies and a Cox HDTV cable box with DVR for HDTV reception, recording, and playback. We also have a Wii player connected, and its images also look great with this HDTV.

This Sharp HDTV was delivered via Amazon's standard truck carrier, and arrived on time in perfect condition.

This is one great HDTV. We highly recommend it!

I have had this TV for two weeks now. Woohoo, I'm glad I waited!

A little background... in October 2010 Amazon had this television at a substantial discount (<$4,000). At that price, I got a tremendous TV. I'm not sure I'd be so inclined to give it 5 stars if I paid substantially more for it. At the end of the day, you can get a 63" Samsung 3D Plasma for <$3,000. You pay a couple bucks more a year in energy costs to run the plasma and have to worry about burn-in in the first 100 hours or so, but you arguably get similar or even better picture quality for less money. More background... I'm inclined toward LCDs and specifically Samsung LCDs. I've always been scared off by potential burn-in issues on Plasmas. I've also tried Sharp and Sony LCDs briefly and never got the same brightness or saturation out of them. I own the Samsung LNT5265F 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV. If you read the reviews of that set, you'll find it is one of the highest rated sets out there. I love mine. So the reason I've taken two weeks to review is that it took me that long to adjust the settings of the new 65" so that I felt they were as good as the LNT5265FX that I have downstairs. For a long time I was worried I wasn't going to be able to match the picture quality I had with that set for richness and naturalness of color. The good news is that I have indeed matched it and this set delivers the same vividness and brightness to match what is arguably the best LCD set Samsung has every made. At the end of the day, it all comes down to picture quality and if I couldn't get it as good as I have it with the 52", I was going to be disappointed. Now the other positives... the set is incredibly thin and the screen is simply huge. I watched Shrek in 3D and found the 3D effects worked great. I found that depending on your settings you may experience some cross-talk, but adjusted properly it was great. In particular, I found the dynamic motion enhancement seems to help 3D. But I haven't experimented enough with adjusting the 3D picture quality to really say definitively. The 2D->3D conversion works impressively well and my Comcast ESPN 3d channel worked great too.

I've put it in game mode and the responsiveness seems comparable to a computer monitor (I have a Mac Mini hooked to the TV as well).

If you read other online forums, you'll see other folks have had problems with uneven vertical light bands (this set is edge-lit from the top and bottom), flashlighting where portions of the screen burn brighter, warped bevels, and dead pixels. I have one partially dead pixel, but otherwise I've had none of these problems. If I put a very dark gray solid color screen on (easy to do with a computer) I can see some light output inconsistencies, but these disappear entirely for standard content.

I also have the camera for on-board skype. Skype app works great and you can receive calls while watching TV. I'll caveat that the one skype session I did the remote party couldn't see me, but I'm not sure the reason. I'm hoping there isn't an incompatible video codec with this particular camera. For the cost though, probably would have made more sense to get a USB camera for the Mac Mini rather than bothering with Skype on the TV, though getting calls while watching is a nice feature.

Overall I got what I wanted... a 3D capable 65" set with comparable picture quality to my gold-standard 52" Samsung LCD.

Pros: 65" is a great size for my living room, and the picture quality allows you to feel that you're there. A seated newscaster looks the same size as if they were on the other side of a window. The custom pro pic adjustments make any source look great!

Cons: As with all plasmas, the light reflection can be annoying. It is certainly watchable in the daytime with the shades open, but a bit distracting. The THX mode default is "HD Size 2" 100% scan, which introduces some edge noise with some sources (cable)

Summary: I've been waiting for months for the 65 inch V10 to become available. Almost pre-ordered it online several times, but was leary of ordering before it was in stock. Happened into Best Buy on Fri Aug 21 and saw the 58" on display. Asked about the 65" and found out the store had just received one that day and intended to set it up for display the next day. After a short negotiation I had secured this first set for $3899 ($100 off MSRP) and had it delivered free on the following Tuesday. First thing I did after setting it up was to switch the picture setting from Vivid to THX and the picture was amazing. Flipped through a few channels and watched some dark scenes from shows on my DVR that I had been saving just for this purpose. The clarity in low light scenes better than I had imagined. I have played with the custom pro picture settings some, but haven't spent enough time to get it looking better than THX yet. I have enjoyed the Viera Cast features, especially the weather and YouTube. I was watching a movie on cable and started wondering what other movies had the same director. I paused the show, switched to YouTube and looked up the director's name and watched a few clips of him taling about the movie I was watching and a few others he had directed, then went back and watched the rest of the movie. It was nice to be able to do this without having to pull out my laptop. I was also impressed with the picture quality from YouTube, even when I put it on full screen (I don't think most YT videos are prepared to be displayed at 65", but it still looked pretty clear!) I haven't rented a movie from the Amazon download service yet, but I'll have to try it. I can't believe that the picture will equal BluRay though- which reminds me... For some reason it was nearly three days of watching this set before I remembered that I hadn't see a BluRay disk on it. I had been too caught up playing with the settings and Viera Cast and setting up my Harmony report (which is a little tricky to get set up for Viera Cast because I wanted the direction pad to control the DRV when watching cable and to control the TV when using VC, but I figured it out.) Anyway, I finally got around to putting in a BluRay disc and the picture went to a whole other level - like nothing I'd seen before. Going back to Comcast compressed 1080i HD signal after BluRay was like looking through a mist. Now I can't rent BR movies fast enough. I almost want to stop watching my favorite shows on TV and wait for the season to come out on BluRay.

This is truly one of the top two sets currently available. Bright, great black levels. Excellent color, very adjustable. Earlier HX929 sets had issues with "creases" in the picture edges which do not appear here. I do not see any blooming either. Off axis quality drops as with all LCD direct view sets, but a little sooner than most. Not a problem for most reasonable viewing positions. Stand is solid unlike the 55. Highly recommended!

The following is my Amazon purchasing experience... In a pre-purchase call to Amazon a representative confirmed that they are an authorized Pioneer dealer and that `White Glove Delivery' was included in the indicated purchase price.

The 6020 was ordered on Sunday and delivered the following Friday. For whatever reason, the order was not coded as `White Glove Delivery'. I eventually prevailed and the delivery was delivered `White Glove'. Regardless of how handy you are, `White Glove delivery' is extremely important. This type of delivery service requires the delivery team to setup and turn on the TV. When a shipment is left at your door it can be defective and you do not discover this until well after the delivery team has left. If you receive a defective TV with `White Glove Delivery', one simply refuses delivery; the delivery team will repackage the device and return it to Amazon. Without `White Glove Delivery' one is stuck with a defective TV and must endure the process of repackaging, storing and returning it.

When the team unpackaged my first set the screen was covered with spider cracks. The device was repackaged and back it went to Amazon. If there is an issue with the delivery, I encourage you to call the returns department at Amazon that handles Plasma TV's. There is a special telephone number. If you reach an overseas Amazon representative ask for the call to be transferred to this department. This department is located in the States. They are available 7 days a week but are not available round the clock. I ended up speaking with a tremendous representative who was a Supervisor. He made sure that a new order was processed, the `White Glove Delivery' was coded clearly on the order and Amazon provided a substantial discount on the order due to the difficulties that were encountered. I received the replacement TV five days later on the following Wednesday. The TV was delivered in perfect condition. The `White Glove Delivery' team setup the TV turned it on and removed the packaging. I also received two other price reductions when Amazon dropped the price of the set in the following two weeks. Contact Amazon prior to purchase to review the details of the potential purchase and any expectations you may have.)

The issues I had could have happened from any vendor. The difference is that Amazon had a system in place which corrected that matter in an efficient manner with a minimum of inconvenience to me. Amazon also had the best price and delivery options.

The picture quality is stunning. I highly recommend the 6020 and Amazon as a reputable dealer.

	A Display First, you'll need a 3D-ready display--whether it's a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession.
	A Source Your display may be ready for 3D playback, but you'll still need a device to read 3D content. This can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system.
	3D Content 3D content--the actual entertainment, in other words--will be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it's a 3D broadcast from your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D video game.

When I first saw this TV online, I laughed about the idea of spending $4500 (at Best Buy) on a toy. I did plan to get the 50" Elite at Best Buy, because $3000 was the most I was willing to pay for a large TV, and the only reason I considered the Elite over the wonderful 58" Panasonic was because I compared the Elite to the Panasonic and fell in love with the Pioneer. However, long story short, my wife wasn't satisfied with the smaller Elite, so I shelled out the money for the 60" (domestic politics, am I right fellas?!).

Setup on this TV will take you at least a couple of hours unless you're an expert at electronics setup; there are a lot of screws and parts, and because it takes for-freakin'-ever to find all the digital channels during set-up (if you have a cable or satellite box, you can probably bypass channel set-up, which is what I did halfway through). Thankfully, Pioneer's manual is fairly intuitive and thought-out (plus it's a pretty, glossy black, so it looks fancy). Oh, and - if it matches your room - be sure to get a piano black stand to match the TV.

Now, for the actual TV review. To sum it up: Oh my gosh!!!! This is the best television I have ever owned, which is saying a lot because I previously had a Marenz 65" DLP, which is supposed to have the best picture and sound you can buy. But the Pioneer blows this baby out of the water!

Picture: First off, the picture really is the best you can get as far as HD is concerned. The blacks are the best part; they are so deep and beautiful that it really does look like you're in a blacked-out forest. The light colors are also spectacular. Furthermore, there are multiple picture adjustments to find your sweet spot, and there's even a color sensor included that will automatically adjust the picture to the changing light in the room. This is great if your living room is brightly lit. However, I haven't used the color sensor or any of the adjustments much because the picture was wonderful right out of the box. One caveat: standard-def pictures don't look that great. Mind you, it's partially dependent on what the station is, but still, if you don't have a HD box you're not going to be happy with this (although why you would buy an HDTV and not have some type of HD box is beyond me).

Sound: The sound is wonderful. Although there is not a whole lot of bass (what did you expect for TV speakers?), the sound is good enough that you won't need a home theater system running all the time. Separation is good, volume is excellent, and there's virtually no distortion.

TV itself: Lots of hook-ups for virtually everything you need. There's even a PC hookup to connect you laptop (although I haven't used it yet). The HDMI hookups are easily found, and everything is clearly marked, so setup is a breeze. The only thing it's missing is a USB hookup for firmware updates and stuff, but since Pioneer is getting out of the business, I doubt there are any firmware updates coming. I haven't checked energy consumption, but I have my TV set to energy-saver mode (keep in mind, a big drawback to plasmas is they consume a lot of juice, so if you're looking to save the environment or on your energy bill, look at LCD or LED TVs).

To conclude, this is the best TV you can buy. While the price is high and standard-def viewing is mediocre on most channels, there's a reason why Pioneer TVs (and for that matter Apple computers) cost so much: you're getting the best.
